Debra Smith, LMTOWNER/DIRECTOR
I fell in love with massage therapy as most of us do, because of chronic pain. I still remember the name of the gentleman to whom I was complaining. He told me that I "needed" to see Ily. Ily, it seems was a massage therapist who, without a doubt, could help me get free of pain and get on with life. I had never heard of such a treatment. I hemmed and hawed and eventually called Ily. This changed my life. Since being treated with massage therapy and learning about other holistic, and much less drastic, measures to improve my health, my well being has improved beyond belief. After becoming a massage therapist myself in 1996, I have had the most incredible journey. Every patient a different being from the session before; each patient ever-changing and evolving and finding their path to a healthier state. I have become more aware than ever as time goes on that relaxation and truly "letting go" of tightly held muscles and thoughts is a gift to yourself like no other. I have come to believe that if your body is not working so hard to fight the everyday stressers put upon it, it has the reserves to deal with disease processes. New patients always ask what "technique" I use. Deep tissue? Myofascial release? Swedish? Cranial? Yes, yes, yes and yes. All blended together especially for you each time you arrive. Thanks for taking time for yourself. I am honored to be with you on your path. If you have any specific questions for me or would like to discuss a treatment plan, I am happy to speak with you by phone at 990-0188, Ext. 11, or you can reach me by email at: therapyandwellness@yahoo.com I AM SO EXCITED TO BE WORKING IN THIS ATMOSPHERE OF HEALTH!

Mariane Fricke, LCSWCOUNSELING, COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My focus is on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which allows people to change the way they feel by changing the way they think. Depending on clients' needs, I use other treatment modalities as well. I have worked in the in-patient and out-patient settings, and have a varied background outside the field of Social Work. My experience influences the work I do with clients. My particular interest is in the treatment of trauma, especially PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). I earned a certificate in Psychological Trauma: Clinical Assessment and Treatment, from Boston University. In order to expand my resources, I also became a trained EMDR therapist, receiving Level 2 training. EMDR is a specific form of treatment for PTSD. I have been in one helping profession or another for almost forty years. In my current role as a social work therapist, I offer supportive therapy to clients who have mental illness. I walk beside them as they develop positive techniques to manage signs and symptoms of their illnesses, and as they learn ways to tolerate their emotions. People who have a history of trauma frequently have difficulty identifying, expressing and processing their emotions. Therapy can help them to manage their feelings, and to express them effectively and appropriately in order to have their needs met. Clients learn communication skills, stress management and relaxation techniques, and often in combination with these, pain management techniques. |

About the Doctor
Dr. Bruce Packard, DC, is the owner and wellness advisor of ProCare Chiropractic Clinics of southern and north-central Maine. Dr. Packard earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire, and did post-graduate work at UNH and the University of the District of Columbia prior to entering Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1991. Palmer College is the first chiropractic college, and is considered the “Fountainhead of Chiropractic.”
At Palmer, Dr. Packard met and begin specialized study under Dr. Walter “Vern” Pierce, a chiropractic visionary and inventor of what later became the ProAdjuster - the computerized adjusting instrument in use at ProCare Chiropractic.
“I came to chiropractic with a decades-long history of headaches and neck pain. I had throbbing, sickening headaches almost every day of my adult life. So I can really identify with patients who have similar problems. I’ve been there.”
“At Palmer, I was adjusted with pretty much every technique, and nothing helped.” continues Dr. Packard. “My headaches didn’t go away until Dr. Pierce became my doctor and worked on me with his cutting-edge techniques and instrumentation. And he never once twisted or snapped my neck. “
”What a relief! Imagine, after suffering for decades, a day without headaches and neck pain! I was sold! I’ve since made it my personal mission to bring Dr. Pierce’s incredible techniques and the ProAdjuster to as many hurting people as possible, so they can experience the life-transforming improvements I did.”
Dr. Packard graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1994, and returned to Maine to go into private practice. He has successfully delivered thousands and thousands of adjustments during his career, and helped a great many people achieve their level of optimal health.
At ProCare Chiropractic Clinics, Dr. Packard places an emphasis on making patients feel comfortable and at ease. “Chiropractic, and especially the ProAdjuster, are new things to a lot of people. And patients absolutely love the ProAdjuster! I take time with my patients. I explain, I listen, and try, if anything, to over-communicate on all aspects of their care. I think people like that – knowing their doc really cares about them.”
Dr. Packard is married to Sabrina. They have three children and live in Orrington. Dr. Packard enjoys shooting sports, fishing, and ‘being a computer geek.’
“Thank you for taking the time to browse through the ProCare website. Be sure to check out the information on the ProAdjuster. It is truly an amazing step forward in chiropractic care, and our branch office in Portland is the only ProAdjuster location in the city. If you have any questions, I’m here to help. We’re just a phone call away.”

My primary practice in therapeutic bodywork includes deep tissue massage, myofascia release and Swedish style techniques. This 14 years journey has also incorporated energy medicine including the Usui/Tibentian Reiki, Upleager crainosacral therapies, Zero Balancing, Burham Bodywise Techniques, therapeutic essential oils, Peruvian Inca traditional healing modalities and luminous healing strategies.
This enhancement of mind-body-spirit skills coupled with 28 years of social work and support care services has assisted me in the development of a belief that issues are best addressed when a full understanding of the person is known. We have physical, emotional and knowledge parts of ourselves that affect our wondrous mind, body and spirit. All of which informs us to who we are and what we will become.
Wellness is achieved through the incorporation of techniques addressing one’s physical and energetic bodies, both our conscious and unconscious awareness. I work not only with the result of our lives (physical stress, pain, tension, loss of vitality) but also with those “themes” which follows us. Often what needs to be included to achieve wellbeing is a change in perspective.
“When one changes their view, the world changes”
